Balancing showings and living in a house that is on the market

It’s exciting putting your house on the marketing and start dreaming of a new place to call home. But living in a house and showing your house don’t seem like they should be breathed in the same sentence. The House Hunters Minnesota Team is here to share their best tips to make it as simple and easy as possible to show your house and get it sold, all while going on with your day to day life and staying sane!

Clean, clean, clean. Plan on cleaning every evening. Set aside 30 minutes. Schedule it if needed. Make it a priority. It also helps remove smells caused by pets, cooking and more. Cleaning every night means there’s not a mad rush before a showing to clean up.

09Act like your visiting. Imagine that you are a house guest at a friend’s or family’s home. You’d probably keep things a little neater, put things away faster, clean up immediately… It helps to see things through a different perspective.

Declutter. Put away mail, file papers, remove items you don’t need or use. Do it every day. Make it part of your evening cleaning half hour.

Get a storage unit. Are you moving because you’ve outgrown your house? To create a open and inviting space, there is a very good possibility that you’ll need to remove a good portion of the items in your house. Imagine a model home. Could you modify your necessary belongings to create a similar atmosphere? This will also help you stay in the state of mind that it’s a house for sale, not just your current home.

Kids and Pets. We all love our children and pets. They make life better. But they sure make life messy! Make sure the kids don’t leave toys out and that messes are cleaned up right away. We know, this is easier said than done. Pet hair and pet waste all need to disposed of daily.

Plan. Make a plan where you are going to go during a showing. If you have pets, will they be with you or kenneled at home? It’s less hectic if you make a plan and don’t feel rushed out the door with nowhere to go when a potential buyer visits.

Remember it’s only temporary! You’ll soon be able to enjoy your new home. We promise, this won’t last too long.

We hope these tips help you navigate living in and selling your home. Feel free to reach out to us if you need anymore ideas or have some to share with us!
